Buen día, lector!
Esto es un breve anuncio diciendo que ya estaré rumbo a mi campus universitario en un par de días y comenzando mi penúltimo año, creo que sería mejor para despedir a los exámenes durante un rato, al menos hasta que yo estoy mejor situado con mi horario.
Tengo pensado teniendo un mes entero en septiembre y estarán regresando a escribir comentarios en octubre. No se preocupe, no estoy dejando para el bien, sólo por un tiempo.
En el ínterin, voy a enumerar varios las próximas películas que será distribuida entre los meses de octubre a diciembre, así que me puede ayudar a decidir cuáles debo revisar hasta el final del año 2017.
Una vez más, me estoy tomando un descanso durante un mes para concentrarse en la escuela, pero yo ya no puedo esperar para volver y entretener a todos con mi pensamiento en buenas y malas películas.

BACK TO SCHOOL (SEPTEMBER BREAK)
Good day, reader!
This is a very brief notice saying that since I will be heading off to my college campus in a couple of days and starting my Junior year, I think it'd be best to lay off the reviews for a while- at least until I'm better situated with my schedule.
I plan on taking a whole month off in September and will be returning to write reviews in October. No worries, I am not leaving for good, just for a while.
In the meantime, I will list several upcoming movies that will be released between October through December, so you can help me decide which ones I should review until the end of the 2017 year.
Once again, I am taking a break for a month to focus on school, but I already can't wait to return and entertain you all with my thoughts on good and bad movies.

La Película Emoji (2017)

Aquí está. La película todo el mundo se ha horrorizado ha sido finalmente liberado. Here it is. The movie everyone has been dreading has finally been released. As the movie was approaching its debut, there was actually a bit of me that had faith that it was going to be a good movie. That somehow, someway, a movie about digital images wasn't going to bomb. Yet ultimately, I ended up going into this movie with low expectations. I didn't think it was going to be good at all, but was I correct?
Did "The Emoji Movie" express itself in a great way with a terrific plot or did it end up being very..."meh"?
The story of "The Emoji Movie" stars main character, Gene (T.J Miller), who is designed to be a "meh" emoji- otherwise known as an emoji who is indifferent or doesn't care about anything. Gene is able to feel more than one emotion though, he can be happy, crying, scared, and so much more. Because of this, other emojis consider Gene a malfunction and Gene ventures off to fix himself, finding friends, apps, and lessons along the way.
If I can describe the story in two words, it would be: confusing & predictable.
I find it confusing because, how is there an emoji with more than 1 emotion? If there was really a multi-expressional emoji then this story would make more sense. To my knowledge though, there is not so I'm left watching the story like, "How is this even going to end?" I feel like a multi-expressional emoji would put all the other emojis out of business so either he should be fixed or everyone else will never be used again.
At the same time, it was also predictable because it's easily one of those, "Be Yourself" movies where there's an outcast who wants to fit in and he'll eventually learn that it's okay to be different. It's really not a spoiler, there are so many movies like this it should be no surprise.
Also, there's never a true reason as to why Gene is the way he is. There is no backstory about why he's the only one to behave this way, what is the actually origin behind this "defect"?
The story was such a headache for someone like me who likes to include logic, and while that sounds silly for a cartoon, I feel like even for a cartoon it should have some amount of sense for the story to work.
Here's an example: You know the popular Disney movie, Tangled, right? It's about a princess named Rapunzel who has magical hair. Why does she have magical hair? From a magical flower.
Yeah, that's not something that can happen in real life but it's an answer to how the princess is so different.
The main conflict that starts up Gene's journey also felt incredibly contrived, like it didn't even have to happen. Gene only had to do one simply thing and before that event, it's clear that he can be able to do it and yet at that very moment he can't. That didn't rub off on me well.
The characters were one-dimensional, and that's not just talking about the one-dimensional emojis. Gene himself is the typical outcast who wants to fit in, Hi-5 (James Corden) was the selfish character who was on the journey for his own needs, and Jailbreak (Anna Faris) while the most likable of the three was still the stereotypical rebel girl who don't take nothing from no man-which leads me to another complaint I have which is bringing in feminist agendas into a cartoon.
There were times where Jailbreak would complain about how woman are defined as one thing only and how men always look smarter than them and all I can think is, "How can you think that? You're an emoji! Is there really sexism in a digital world where you're only purpose is to act one way? Plus, aren't emojis genderless anyway?" In a movie like this, I don't think it's wise to include serious issues like women empowerment, not because it doesn't matter, but because it doesn't fit into the story!
I actually got the most fun out of watching side character Smiler (Maya Rudolph) because of her voice actress, she made me giggle here and there even if her face was frightening at times. I give props to Rudolph for giving this character life, but unfortunately it's just overpowered by the blandness of every other character.
Despite the overwhelming amount of color in this movie, nothing ever seemed to pop out to me. It was all just boring, and I wish I could describe it better but I can't. I remember getting distracted by other things while watching them travel from one app to the next. Speaking of which, there was a lot of product placement like Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, so this movie will get very dated very soon.
There's actually a lot more I wish to comment on this movie, but that would require me to spoil it so I'm sorry if this isn't as long as you wanted, but if you do want to know more just check out the spoiler section below. Of course, it would be better if you watch the movie to understand what parts I am talking about but I really wouldn't want you to.
"The Emoji Movie" while not the worse film in the world, is certainly not a great one. Its characters are annoying, the story was unoriginal especially with how the plot progressed, there are jokes that will become dated in 5 years time, and weirdly enough it might make your little ones paranoid to break or change their phone in fear of harming emojis.
I'm giving "The Emoji Movie" a 1 out of 5 stars.
Side note: A "Hotel Transylvania" short played before the movie began and the short was called, "Puppy." It was about Mavis and Johnathon's son wanting a puppy and he gets one, but it's no regular puppy. After all, nothing is regular in Transylvania, yet the story itself felt rushed and too simple. It also felt like the short didn't even end, like it stops playing after a big moment in the story and nothing happens after that. Not one of my favorite animated shorts.

Why are the baby donuts scared of Gene? Aren't they too young to even comprehend that an emoji can only have one emotion? How do emojis have kids? What do the older emojis do when the younger emojis take their place?
Gene, you just have to stand there and be "meh". Clearly it's not like you can't control yourself for a second, we saw you multiple times practicing the emotion.
If I was Addie, I would be confused about the emoji too but I would also feel inclined to ask the boy (I don't even remember his name, that's how boring he is...) how to get that kind of emoji. That would be a conversation starter, I mean the two text each other anyways. It's not like she's ignoring him.
Even if my phone was messed up, I would be too lazy to immediately call someone to fix it. I remember waiting a few weeks before I got to that point. He gets a new emoji- which is really cool!- and he's like, "This phone is messed up, I got to change it."
I thought the poop would be the villain, glad he isn't and I'm extra glad he's not a major part of the story. This makes the poop jokes more bearable. Also, how sad must that be when people touch you they have to wipe their hands off every time?
Eggplant is in the loser's section? I find that hard to believe.
Why did you snap if you knew it was going to hurt you?
A princess? It'd be cool if they met up with her, maybe she has the same thing as Gene.
Jailbreak is clearly an emoji as well. Is this a way to promote her as being a new emoji in the future? Also, I love the hair but it reminds me so much of Wildstyle from "The Lego Movie."
Men take credit for women's ideas? How do you know that, Jailbreak? There's sexism in Emoji world?
There's a "Just Dance" app on the phone, how do you play that?
I'm starting to think that Jailbreak is the princess-oh wow, she is the princess! Seeing her real hair compared to her wig, she looks very boring.

If princesses were more prominent in the story, at least in the beginning, I could have gotten a better sense of how Jailbreak feels about having to behave a certain way as a princess.
Jailbreak, really? You've been gone for how long and your mom misses you so much! How are you going to yell at her after all this time?
That Addie girl is everywhere! Small world. Also, he's going to send an emoji while the phone is erasing stuff? Are you that desperate?! Just walk up to the girl and say hi, you talk to her all the time on the phone so you are clearly friends! She's right there!
I always hated when all the characters you follow die for a momentary period of time only to be resurrected. Something about it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, I guess I figure that if someone dies, they die. No coming back, I feel like it's a cop-out.
We don't see Smiler after she is crushed, so is she dead now?
Gene is going to put everyone out of business with his ability. Also, I thought everyone would change like Gene and have more than one expression.
Bringing back the Gene dance in memory of the Just Dance girl who is either still in the trash or dead forever....

Here it is. The movie everyone has been dreading has finally been released. As the movie was approaching its debut, there was actually a bit of me that had faith that it was going to be a good movie. That somehow, someway, a movie about digital images wasn't going to bomb. Yet ultimately, I ended up going into this movie with low expectations. I didn't think it was going to be good at all, but was I correct?

JUGAR REVISAR- Spamilton: Una Parodia Americana
Una parodia fuera del best-seller El espectáculo de Broadway "Hamilton" este rendimiento presenta un spin off más cómico del histórico musical con sus propios conjuntos de canciones, bailes, y la creatividad.

Este es mi primer comentario de un musical que he visto, y no tengo intención de hacer estas muy a menudo desde mi monedero no puede permitirse el lujo de mirar tantos en un corto período de tiempo. Quiero ramificarse mis habilidades de escritura para algo más que películas y rants ocasionales. Siempre estoy listo para el desafío de escribir acerca de mis pensamientos, lo hago con regocijo, y después de ver este musical ciertamente quiero compartir un breve repaso sobre cómo me sentía.
"Spamilton" fue escrita y dirigida por Gerard Alessandrini y es un espectáculo de 80 minutos o 1 hora y 20 minutos- de un pequeño elenco de personajes, contar el cuento de la vida de padre fundador americano Alexander Hamilton. No sólo eso, los personajes también de ir más lejos en hablar de la vida de la protagonista de "Hamilton" Lin-Manuel Miranda así como estamos hablando de muchos otros espectáculos de broadway populares que están luchando actualmente para la atención que "Hamilton" les robó.
La historia de "Spamilton" mientras hilarante y nunca te deja aburrido, puede ser un poco difícil de entender para algunos espectadores.
"Hamilton" referencias por sí mismos no van a dejar de tener un buen tiempo, ya que apenas conocen el musical aparte de escuchar un par de canciones de su banda sonora. La verdadera cuestión era viejo celeberties referencias relacionadas con el tiempo que me hizo inclinar mi cabeza y me pregunto cómo pueden se incluyen en el musical.
Para ser justos, después de pensar acerca de su contribución para el negocio del entretenimiento, pude ver cómo pueden estar conectados, pero esto puede ser un lugar seco para el público más joven que no han crecido conociendo acerca de estas personas. Este musical puede crecer de fecha a lo largo del tiempo, sin embargo, por lo que sé, no creo que el escritor pretende ser una historia atemporal.
También puede haber cuestiones entendimiento el musical si no eres un gran fan de Broadway o al menos tener algún conocimiento de lo que los grandes espectáculos en la Ciudad de Nueva York. Por ejemplo, este no es un número exacto, pero dicen que los personajes hablan acerca de ocho espectáculos de Broadway, de que he entendido las referencias a seis de ellos. Por lo tanto, si esta es su primera obra musical nunca y nunca has sido un gran fan de los musicales antes, las escenas donde los personajes hablan acerca de ellos pueden haber perdido.

Estaban tan excéntrico y odioso de la mejor manera, desde sus acciones físicas- de su figura a su cara- siempre está a punto de ser tan tontas como sea posible. No hubo un momento en que ninguno de ellos parecía estar fuera de personaje. Incluso cuando alguien no estaba presente en el escenario, aún podría ser incluido en la escena como coros y así sucesivamente.
Aunque sólo hay un puñado de actores, sus voces se disparó en todo el teatro. Era como yo estaba viendo la realidad "Hamilton" por un precio mucho más razonable. Me sorprendió con el talento que exuberated e impresionado como me di cuenta de la cantidad de esfuerzo que ponen en la celebración de una nota o multitarea mientras bailaban o interactuado con otros como ellos cantaban.
Cuando fui a ver el espectáculo, se encontraba en el teatro itinerante puertorriqueño por 47th Street Theater de Nueva York, Nueva York. Es un pequeño y humilde lugar, había una traducción al español del musical encima del escenario, y yo estaba muy contento con eso. No tienes que preocuparte por grandes multitudes de personas dondequiera que vayas, ya que no se trata de un gran edificio, pero algo que le conciernen con el asiento.
Me decidí a sentarse en el balcón de la primera fila y la primera fila puede ser bastante aterrador para aquellos que temen a las alturas. Delante de usted hay bares para retener, pero nada que le impida mirar abajo en el primer piso orquesta.
En resumen, usted puede patear el pie fuera del balcón si querías y ningún muro se le impida hacerlo. Por lo tanto, si vienes con niños pequeños, recomendaría encarecidamente a no tomar la primera fila del balcón o los lados del balcón también conocido como caja de derecha y de izquierda.
También puede sentir un poco agobiante porque los asientos tiene el manillar que no puede levantar, además está muy cerca de sus vecinos y recuerdo tratando de no carga una dama junto a mí por acercando a mi madre que hizo el manillar poke mí en mi costado. No era el mejor lugar para aquellos que padezcan claustrofobia, puedo decirles que, pero el espectáculo fue tan divertido que puede ser fácil olvidar el espacio. Una nota final acerca del edificio, hay un cuarto de baño en la planta sótano con dos puestos para cada uno de los hombres y mujeres, de modo que sugeriría usarlo antes de la película así que no tienes que lidiar con las largas colas durante el breve intermedio.
Lo recomendaría ver "Spamilton"? Sí, la verdad es que yo.
Fue divertido de principio a fin, viniendo de una persona que nunca había visto "Hamilton" todavía era comprensible y divertido para ver, aunque recomendaría a la investigación de los grandes musicales en Nueva York, por lo que obtiene un sentido de por qué los chistes sobre ellos son divertidos. Un grito especial a todos los artistas que vi ese día: Dan Rosales, Nicole Vanessa Ortiz, Tristan J. Shuler, Aaron Michael Bay, Chris Anthony Giles, Claudia Yánez, y Cameron Amandus para un excelente desempeño. Usted fue el punto culminante de mi tarde que el 5 de agosto de 2017.
Para ser claro, yo sólo estoy revisando el show solo y no el lugar porque siempre se puede cambiar y no determina cómo el buen espectáculo. En esa nota, quiero dar "Spamilton" un 4 1/2 de 5 estrellas.

This is my very first review off of a musical I watched, and I don't intend on doing these very often since my wallet cannot afford to watch so many in a short amount of time. I want to branch out my writing abilities to more than just movies and occasional rants. Whenever I am up to the challenge of writing about my thoughts, I do so with glee, and after watching this musical I certainly want to share a brief review on how I felt about it.
"Spamilton" was written and directed by Gerard Alessandrini and it is an 80 minute show- or 1 hour and 20 minutes- of a small cast of characters retelling the story of the life of American founding father Alexander Hamilton. Not only that, the characters also go further into discussing the life of the lead actor of "Hamilton" Lin-Manuel Miranda as well as talking about many other popular broadway shows that are currently striving for the spotlight that "Hamilton" stole from them.
The story of "Spamilton" while hilarious and never leaves you bored, can be a little difficult to understand for some viewers.
The "Hamilton" references themselves aren't going to stop you from having a good time, since I barely know the musical aside from listening to a couple of songs from their soundtrack. The real issue was references involving old time celeberties that made me tilt my head and wonder how they can are included in the musical.
To be fair, after thinking about their contribution to the entertainment business, I could see how they can be connected, but this can be a dry spot for the younger audience who haven't grown up knowing about these people. This musical can grow dated over time, yet from what I know of, I don't think writer intended for it to be a timeless story.
There can also be issues understanding the musical if you're not a huge broadway fan or at least have some knowledge of what the big shows are in New York City. For example, this isn't an accurate number, but say the characters spoke about eight broadway shows, out of that I understood the references to six of them. So if this is your first musical ever and you've never been a big fan of musicals before, the scenes where the characters speak about them may have you lost.
On the bright side, even when I found myself a bit confused, the performance of the actors kept me from being bored in my seat. They were so eccentric and obnoxious in the best way, from their physical actions- from their figure to their face- it was always on point with being as goofy as possible. There wasn't a moment where any of them appeared to be out of character. Even when someone was not present on stage, they would still often be included in the scene as backup vocals and so forth.
Though there were only a handful of actors, their voices boomed throughout the theatre. It was like I was watching the actual "Hamilton" for a much more reasonable price. I was surprised with the talent they exuberated and impressed as I noticed the amount of effort they put into holding a note or multitasking as they danced or interacted with others as they sang.
When I went to watch the show, it was located in the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre on 47th Street Theatre in New York, New York. It's a small yet humble place, it had a Spanish translation of the musical above the stage, and I was very pleased with that. You don't have to worry about huge crowds of people everywhere you go since it's not a huge building, but something I would concern you with is the seating.
I decided to sit on the balcony in the first row, and the first row can be pretty scary for those afraid of heights. In front of you there are bars to hold onto, but nothing that can block you from looking below at the first floor orchestra.
In short, you can kick your foot out of the balcony if you wanted to and no wall will block you from doing it. Therefore, if you come with little kids, I would highly suggest not to take the first row of the balcony or the sides of the balcony otherwise known as box right and left.
It can also feel a little cramped because the seating has handlebars that you cannot lift up, plus you're very close to your neighbors and I remember trying to not burden a lady beside me by inching closer to my mother which made the handlebar poke me in my side. It was not the best venue for those who are claustrophobic, I can tell you that, but the show was so much fun it can be easy to forget about the cramped space. One final note about the building, there is a bathroom in the basement floor with two stalls each for the men and women so I'd suggest to use it before the show so you don't have to deal with the long lines during the brief intermission.

Would I recommend seeing "Spamilton"? Yes, I really would.
It was fun experience from beginning to end. Coming from a person who's never watched "Hamilton" it was still comprehensible and hilarious to watch, although I would recommend to research the big musicals in New York so you get a sense of why the jokes about them are funny. A special shout-out to all of the performers I saw that day: Dan Rosales, Nicole Vanessa Ortiz, Tristan J. Shuler, Aaron Michael Bay, Chris Anthony Giles, Claudia Yanez, and Cameron Amandus for a splendid performance. You were the highlight of my afternoon that August 5, 2017.
Just to be clear, I am only reviewing the show only and not the venue because it can always change and it doesn't determine how good the show is. On that note, I give "Spamilton" a 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Uno de mis películas favoritas creado por Tyler Perry es, "¿Por qué no puedo casarme". Recuerdo que viendo que en teatros y absolutamente enamorado de la idea, los personajes y los problemas muy reales parejas reales pueden enfrentarse y ver cómo cada uno de ellos gestionados para resolverlos.
No importa el hecho de que este año fue lanzado en 2007 y tenía 10 años de edad, esta película realmente resonó en mi memoria y siempre me atrapan en la televisión, no puedo ayudar, pero grabarlo y verlo de nuevo cada vez.

Aparte del carácter irritante Terry, quiero ir a un personaje más y mi última queja que es Mike (Richard T. Jones), que curiosamente no era tan molesta como Terry a pesar de que se suponía iba a ser. Sin embargo, él tiene un gran defecto y para aquellos que han visto esta película probablemente ya sabe: él es demasiado tacaños! Recomiendo verla porque tiene algunas buenas lecciones que puede mantener para cualquier relación acerca de cómo esos tesoros que el amor, incluso si ellos no son perfectos, y los chistes son divertidos, la música es buena y yo con mucho gusto verla de nuevo.

Voy a ser muy breve con esta revisión, para conseguir que fuera del camino.
No hay mucho que quiero entrar porque francamente, quiero olvidar que esta secuela aún existía. Perdóname si parece que estoy corriendo a través de esta larga historia corta, pero esta película no era necesaria.
Nadie estaba pidiendo una secuela, "porqué conseguí casado", pero cuando fue puesto en libertad fui al cine a ver de todos modos (porque de mis padres, pero realmente no me importó). Yo todavía estaba curiosa para ver qué más se podría contar con una historia que ya parecía resuelto.
Lo que sigue después de los acontecimientos de la primera película fue nuevos conflictos y momentos oscuros que se manifiestan como fuerza motriz de la historia. Las cuatro parejas que hagan otro retiro creo que un año después de la primera película, ahora con Mike fuera de la imagen, y residen en una hermosa casa de playa donde, una vez más, sus problemas se nos presentan.

Diane no querer dejar de tomar llamadas de trabajo automáticamente no es un signo de que ella no le importa, sino que ella cuida mucho acerca de criar a su familia a tener las mejores cosas que puede ganar para ellos.
Veo este rant sobre Terry está obteniendo mucho, así que voy a dejar el resto breve. Cuando su gran secreto es revelado, Terry sale de su casa, por lo que Diane dedica a darse cuenta de sus errores al no querer tener otro niño y no desean asentarse en su trabajo y vuelve a su marido para conseguirlo de nuevo.
La siguiente escena que estoy a punto de dirección es lo que realmente me enfureció y solidificado por antipatía por Terry. Cuando Diane intenta obtener Terry venir a casa finge que él consiguió que uno de sus amigos embarazada de gemelos sólo para el tornillo con Diane. Diane es claramente molesto pero estaba dispuesta a continuar con él y se ríe de ella para caer en ella.

Una cosa es no estar alrededor de la casa por un tiempo por razones de trabajo y no desean tener más hijos, pero otra cosa es decirle a su esposa me dieron otra mujer embarazada de pesar. Me hubiera divorciado de él justo allí, si quería jugar esos juegos conmigo.
Aparte del carácter irritante Terry, quiero ir a un personaje más y mi última queja que es Mike (Richard T. Jones), que curiosamente no era tan molesta como Terry a pesar de que se suponía iba a ser. Sin embargo, él tiene un gran defecto y para aquellos que han visto esta película probablemente ya sabe: él es demasiado tacaños! Siendo el único villano de la historia, es, evidentemente, va a agitar el bote, pero casi cada frase que sale de la boca de este hombre ni insultos a su propia esposa o a otras personas. Recomiendo verla porque tiene algunas buenas lecciones que puede mantener para cualquier relación acerca de cómo esos tesoros que el amor, incluso si ellos no son perfectos, y los chistes son divertidos, la música es buena y yo con mucho gusto verla de nuevo.

Voy a ser muy breve con esta revisión, para conseguir que fuera del camino.
No hay mucho que quiero entrar porque francamente, quiero olvidar que esta secuela aún existía. Perdóname si parece que estoy corriendo a través de esta larga historia corta, pero esta película no era necesaria.
Nadie estaba pidiendo una secuela, "porqué conseguí casado", pero cuando fue puesto en libertad fui al cine a ver de todos modos (porque de mis padres, pero realmente no me importó). Yo todavía estaba curiosa para ver qué más se podría contar con una historia que ya parecía resuelto.
Lo que sigue después de los acontecimientos de la primera película fue nuevos conflictos y momentos oscuros que se manifiestan como fuerza motriz de la historia. Las cuatro parejas que hagan otro retiro creo que un año después de la primera película, ahora con Mike fuera de la imagen, y residen en una hermosa casa de playa donde, una vez más, sus problemas se nos presentan.
Terry cree Diane está engañando a él, Troy (el oficial de la película anterior desempeñado por Lamman Rucker) está buscando un trabajo, Angela (Tasha Smith) piensa Marcus (Michael Jai White) es hacer trampa, y Patricia y Gavin (Janet Jackson y Malik Yoba) tienen un secreto que trae su relación al nivel más bajo de todos los tiempos. A diferencia de la última película donde lo único que realmente me odiaba a Terry y sus acciones, culpo a todos por sus acciones.

Algunos personajes como Diane, Troy y Gavin se voltea boca abajo y es como si ni siquiera saben quiénes son más. No eran nada como lo fueron en el pasado y si te ha gustado su carácter o no, tienes que admitir que eran mucho más sensato en sus acciones, mientras que aquí, están o desconsiderado, mezquina o abajo derecha demente. El final de la película es una de las más confusas y terminaciones chocante que he visto en mi vida, que me calienta. En comparación con el primer ending, este vino completamente fuera del campo izquierdo, quita la moral que la serie estaba tratando de presentar y barre los problemas bajo la alfombra como nunca lo sucedido.
Positivos en esta película puede ser que los ajustes eran bonitas, la música estaba bien y estimulación todavía estaba bien, pero yo intente evitar esta película a toda costa. Yo pretendo que nunca existió y en esa nota, estoy dando "porqué conseguí casado demasiado" un 1 1/2 de 5 estrellas.

One of my most favorite movies created by Tyler Perry is, "Why Did I get Married." I remember watching it in theaters and absolutely loving the concept, the characters and the very real issues actual couples can face and seeing how each of them managed to resolve them.
Never mind the fact that the year this was released in 2007 and I must have been 10 years old, this movie really resonated in my memory and whenever I catch it on television, I can't help but record it to watch it again every single time.
But recently, after watching this movie for the hundredth time I noticed a few things that I didn't enjoy and in fact, left me angry. Thinking over this, I figured I'd spread my knowledge to you on what I found to be the positives and negatives of this comedy-drama.
In addition, since this movie does come with a sequel, I will do two brief reviews over this and its sequel, "Why did I get Married too." So after I finish talking about this one, there should be a second review about the sequel. No spoiler section will be included for either.
With that being said, what was it about one of my favorite Tyler Perry movies that brought me to finally notice some cracks in its shell?
First off, I will talk about what I enjoyed. The story was original- at least for the time it came out- and I like movies that aren't always "out there" you know? It didn't need supernatural elements or a huge rescue story to make it interesting, and a couples retreat for four pairs of couples to relax only to bring up major problems in their relationships had me intrigued, even as a child.
My eyes were glued on the screen and I recall hearing several movie goers laughing, commenting, and gasping at the events being played before us. The huge reactions from them and myself were influenced not just by the story but by the characters.
Even now, I find every actor and actress to preform well with what they had. The script for the most part was pretty realistic in regards to how people normally speak, and each person made me pity them at some point in the movie, proving that no matter how different their personalities are or even how villainous some of them appear, they are still human and the story helps witness them as humans and not one note characters.
One moment that I adored for the way it was handled was a scene where the wives are shopping together and one of them is complaining about their issue involving children, but suddenly she stops and apologizes for even bringing it up to only one of the other wives, asking if it was hard for her to hear about it. Though the other wife says no, you can clearly tell something is up and I applaud that the characters didn't outright say, "I know this is tough because of so and so." It makes the audience think about what these people are hiding and drags on our curiosity for longer.
The music choices were good, especially the instrumentals that would play. It was just so calming and made scenes more somber or happier depending on what the director was going for, and it all worked. The pacing of the movie was also well done and the locations that the movie would take place in weren't all that bad either. For instance, most of the film takes place in a cabin where the couples are staying at and it brings off this warm and comforting vibe that we don't get from the couples themselves. It's a clever contrast in a way.
Now onto what I recently considered to be flaws in what used to be a perfect movie in my eyes. Like I said, the characters were preformed well- with what they had. Looking back at the movie, I recognize how cliche some of the dialogue is and there are bits of unnecessary exposition. In the beginning for example, Terry played by Perry himself (go figure) is arguing with his wife Diane (Sharon Leal) about how she is too busy to spend time with him and he says something like, "Well I'm a successful pharmacist and you're a driven lawyer" I'm sure that's not the exact jobs, but I hope you get my point. He literally stated what occupation they were in and how powerful they were in those positions, we couldn't just see that for ourselves.
Terry as a person too is incredibly selfish and cruel, I argue even more than Diane. Their conflict is that Terry wants to have more time with Diane and have a son. The movie makes it seem like Diane is in the wrong and in some ways she was by not being a good listener and not trying to compromise her time with Terry, but he is just as bad.
At least with the other couples, I can accept that the husband or the wife was definitely wrong, but Terry is placed in a good light like he deserves to have his way when that's not necessarily the case. From the way he speaks to Diane, he's practically forcing her to get pregnant again when she's clearly not in the best situation for it. She's a hard working woman who trying to support her family, and like she mentions in the movie, she compromised with Terry to have their first daughter. It appears as if Terry never appreciates that part of her and instead points out her faults and never said, "Hey, I know it was a lot for you to have our daughter and I want to say thank you for being there for her."
Terry even goes behind Diane's back to make sure no one from her job calls her during their retreat, which Diane- rightfully so -is upset about. From the movie's perspective, this is supposed to show how uptight Diane is and how she just can't budge when it comes to relaxation, however what if she missed an urgent call that was a make-or-break deal and if she didn't take it, she'd get fired? Now she loses her job and it would be Terry's fault. Diane not wanting to stop taking calls from work isn't automatically a sign of she doesn't care, but rather she cares a great deal about raising her family to have the best things she can earn for them.
I notice this rant on Terry is getting long so I'll keep the rest brief. When their big secret is revealed, Terry leaves their house, so Diane takes it upon herself to realize her mistakes in not wanting to have another kid and not wanting to settle down from her job and returns to her husband to get him back.
The following scene I'm about to address is what really enraged me and solidified by dislike for Terry. When Diane tries to get Terry to come home he pretends that he got one of his friends pregnant with twins just to screw with Diane. Diane is clearly upset but was willing to still be with him and he laughs at her for falling for it.
That just really got on my nerves because that's so cruel. It's one thing to not be around the house for a while because of work and not wanting to have more kids, but it's another thing to tell your wife I got another woman pregnant out of spite. I would have divorced him right there, if he wanted to play those games with me.
Aside from the irritating Terry character, I want to go onto one more character and my last complaint which is Mike (Richard T. Jones) who surprisingly enough wasn't as annoying as Terry even though he was supposed to be. Still, he has a big flaw and for those who've watched this movie probably already know: he is too mean! Being the only villain of the story, he's obviously going to stir the pot but almost every single sentence that comes out of this guy's mouth either insults his own wife or other people. I just don't find his behavior to be realistic, because he's so obvious as being a bad guy that I can't even hate him completely. It's like he's a cartoon and you just have to laugh and the things he says.
Other than that, I find "Why did I get Married" a good movie. Certainly one of the better ones Perry has done in his career. Although the few flaws it has are major, I can still enjoy it for the diverse cast of characters and the process each couple goes through to save their relationship, most of the couples at least. I would recommend seeing it because it does have some good lessons that you can keep for any relationship about how to treasure those you love even if they aren't perfect, and the jokes are funny, the music is nice and I'd gladly watch it again.

There's not much I want to get into because frankly, I want to forget that this sequel even existed. Forgive me if it seems like I'm rushing through this but long story short, this movie was not needed.
Nobody was asking for a sequel to, "Why Did I get Married" but when it was released I went to the theater anyways to see it (because of my parents really but I didn't mind). I was still curious to see what more they could tell with a story that was already seemed resolved.
What follows after the events of the first film was new conflicts and darker moments that are exemplified as the driving force of the story. The four couples do another retreat I believe a year after the first movie, now with Mike out of the picture, and they reside in a beautiful beach house where once again their problems are being presented to us.
Terry believes Diane is cheating on him, Troy (the officer from the previous movie played by Lamman Rucker) is looking for a job, Angela (Tasha Smith) thinks Marcus (Michael Jai White) is cheating, and Patricia and Gavin (Janet Jackson and Malik Yoba) have a secret that brings their relationship to an all time low. Unlike the last movie where I only really hated Terry and his actions, I blame everyone for their actions.
Each character is not the likable, realistic adult we grew to love but now are acting like petulant children. Everything you loved or at least tolerated about each of them is thrown out the window and it's like they didn't learn anything from the past. I feel like Perry was trying to show that problems are not solved completely and there will always be more, but again no one wanted another movie and thus, no one was interested in seeing them deal with married life once again.
Some characters like Diane, Troy and Gavin are flipped upside down and it's like you don't even know who they are anymore. They were nothing like they were in the past and whether you liked their character or not, you got to admit that they were much more sensible in their actions whereas here, they're either inconsiderate, mean-spirited or down right insane. This movie rips apart the feel good moments you had with the first film because now you know things will never be really be okay with any of the couples because the issues they have now are too severe to resolve.
The ending to the movie is one of the most confusing and shocking endings I've ever seen, that it got me heated. Compared to the first ending, this came completely out of left field, removes the morals that the series was trying to present and sweeps the problems under the rug like they never happened.
Positives on this movie can be that the settings were nice, music was okay and pacing was still fine, but I try to avoid this film at all costs. I pretend it never existed and on that note, I am giving "Why did I get Married too" a 1 1/2 out of 5 stars.
